City poker ace aims to play his cards right for $10m pot
ALISTAIR GRAY (news_en@edinburghnews.com) A FORMER property investor from the Capital is in with a chance of winning a $10 million prize when he jets off to Las Vegas to enter the world's biggest poker tournament. Scott McQueston, a 29-year-old from Easter Road, gave up his £55,000 a year job five years ago after a series of wins playing in Edinburgh casinos. He has since become one of the top players in the UK and was part of a six-strong team that recently won the European championship. Now Mr McQueston says he is confident he will win the World Series of Poker - the most prestigious tournament in the world, which begins next week. But his friend, 20-year-old Rory Mathews - one of Edinburgh's other big poker stars - will not be joining him, because he is too young to gamble in the United States. He claims to have won £1 million in two years, which would make him one of the most successful players ever, after he dropped out of his law and accountancy course at Edinburgh University to play the game on a full-time basis.
