Sales of Olympic Lottery tickets increase
Lottery ticket sales in support of the London Olympics have raised £13.4 million over the past three months to July, a 28 per cent increase on the £10.4 million raised in the previous quarter. Camelot revealed that lottery games in support of the Olympic venture had now raised nearly £30 million.
CAP call on Blackpool residents for casino examination
Professor Stephen Crow, chair of the Casino Advisory Panel (CAP), has urged Blackpool residents to apply to take part in its Examination in Public with representatives from Blackpool Council over the town's casino bid. Crow wants to ensure a 'full range of views' at the hearing, both positive and negative, on why or why not the super-casino should be located in Blackpool.
Gamebookers sign three-year shirt deal
Online gaming site Gamebookers is set to become the first sports betting company to sponsor a French Premier League side after agreeing a three-year deal with FC Nantes. The Gamebookers.com logo will adorn the team's shirts as well as feature around the stadium for the duration of the contract. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
Macau casino revenue to hit $8b this year
Macau's casino gaming revenue looks set to rise by 18 per cent to US $8 billion by the end of 2006 according to Las Vegas-based Globalysis Ltd. The tourism research firm stated that the gross gaming revenue would rise on the back of 'strong macroeconomic activity, a robust tourism industry, increasing disposable income in countries such as China, and expected increases in direct low cost carrier services to Macau.'
American majority say no to gambling ban
Ninety-one per cent of Americans do not want a ban on internet gambling according to a poll conducted by financial news channel CNBC. The Wall Street Journal recently conducted a similar survey that concluded that 85 per cent of respondents do not favour a ban.
AGA launch responsible gambling week
The American Gambling Association has today (7th) launched the Ninth Annual Responsible Gambling Education Week. The trade organisation has funded a U.S. national advertising campaign for the event, as well as TV and radio public service announcements promoting responsible gambling.
UK gaming stocks strengthen
UK gaming companies showed a renewed strength on the FTSE at the end of last week as talk emerged of a delay to the U.S. legislation which aims to prohibit most types of internet gambling. PartyGaming's shares closed up 9 per cent while 888 stocks were up 14 per cent.
Poker offers biggest growth opportunity
A new report published by Research and Market has found that Poker is still thought to offer the most online growth over the next three years, compared with other gaming opportunities; legislation offers the biggest threat to the Poker industry and companies are 'sitting on the fence' as far as their outlook for the industry is concerned. The paper, entitled The Global Business of Poker, goes on to examine issues surrounding the poker industry such as market overviews, areas of opportunities and factors affecting growth.
Blackpool amusement pyramid opened
Flyde Leisure has officially opened its Golden Pyramids amusement complex in Blackpool, on the old site of Grab City in the golden mile. Flyde, in partnership with Crown Leisure, has invested £700,000 into machinery for the site and are planning to have rides installed in the roof of the building pending planning permission.
Survey rates Camelot as 'top class'
According to the 2006 Retailers Satisfaction Survey, Camelot has been rated as a 'top class supplier'. The survey, conducted by independent agency Illuminas between April and June 2006 revealed that all respondents considered their relationship with the lottery company to be as good as it was 12 months ago.
U.S. research identifies gambling area of brain
Researchers from the California Institute of Technology have identified the part of the brain that is stimulated by making wagers, and say the findings could prove useful in treating patients with gambling addiction. The study is also said to have found a 'gambling zone in the brain,' controlled by the neurotransmitter dopamine, which also plays a role in learning and motivation.
B2B sign with Allgames Casinos
B2B Poker has signed a partner agreement with Allgames Casinos Ltd to provide online services in a move aimed at developing business outside its native Sweden. Allgames, which is due to launch a new poker site in the next few months, has 80,000 registered customers in Russia and nearly 36,000 in the UK.
Virtual Arcade Exhibit announced
A group of arcade-style developers and allied media outlets have announced plans for an interactive mobile exhibit entitled the Virtual Arcade Experience. The exhibit will show a retrospective of the history of arcade video games and showcase future gaming technologies. It is set to tour internationally after its London debut planned for the end of this year.

Deborah Meaden, daughter of UK coin-op doyens, Sonia and Brian Meaden, last week begun her stint as a judge on the UK television's cult entrepreneurial series Dragon's Den. Deborah Meaden made her fortune from selling Westar Holidays for more than £30 million last year to Phoenix Equity Partners.
